A combined ATV and Deer Recovery Trailer
which you can tow behind a car
For many
stalkers the culling of deer only forms part of the procedure and it is the
recovery of the fallen animal that can often take the most time and effort.
Very often deer have to be recovered from woodland or soft ground where
access is very restricted both by width and type of vehicle. Equally deer
may fall on cropped land where it is important not to cause damage, this
again means the right type of vehicle combination is needed to minimise the
damage
Another concern may be
the need for discretion when taking a culled animal onto the public highway.
Quite simply the general public may not appreciate viewing the product of
you work!
Some
people have partially got around the problem by taking an ATV to the site
and recovering the fallen animal, but once you have the animal recovered
there is then a problem of bringing both the animal and the ATV back to
base. This might be possible with a pickup truck but many stalkers do not
have this type of vehicle. Indeed many may be using the family estate car,
which can make them unpopular at home!
David
Lyles ATV believes that they may have an answer to this problem with a
recovery trailer, which takes into account these points. The trailer is
rated at 750kg has full lighting, with protected lenses to avoid accidental
damage. It is fitted with extra large road tyres, which also offer some good
off road capability. The trailer is galvanised with a synthetic floor for
good hygiene and is easily cleaned. The trailer comes standard with a rear
ramp and the optional extras of swivel hitch, cover, trailer stands, spare
wheel with bracket and jockey wheel. It can also be fitted with a hand winch
or electric winch for the recovery of animals and has hooks along the side
for securing cover sheets or ratchet straps. The size of the trailer also
allows for an area behind the ATV for the storage of a portable high seat or
other equipment.
So far
this may seem like any other trailer, but now the clever bit! The trailer
has a false floor, which can be folded up out of the way when in normal
transport mode to transport the ATV or other equipment. When a deer is ready
for recovery the ATV can take the trailer to the site of the fallen animal
thus minimising the damage to crops or land. Then the animal can be winched
on and returned to the road going vehicle i.e. car, 4x4 etc. The trailer can
then be taken off the ATV and connected to the road vehicle; the sides are
then folded down to form the false floor and the secondary ramps deployed.
This allows you to drive onto the false floor directly above the animal and
the ATV can be secured in the normal way and if required a protective sheet
can be secured as a blind over the animal to avoid unnecessary exposure.
The cover will also protect the carcass from contamination from the ATV such
as soil or oil.
Finally
you can get the deer to the butchers without falling out with the other half
or the landowner.
David Lyles ATV also offers
simplified versions of this trailer with no secondary bed but complete with
winch and ramp. These are available in two sizes of 6’6” or 8’ long. Please see the Portable
